Her teacher is assumed to have been a very young Edgar Lear, who learned the art because he wanted to produce his own book on parrots and who also did illustrations for John Gould. Elizabeth’s watercolor of the Australian Mulga Parrot, for example, was used as the basis for H.C. and died 15 August 1841.
