As an independent illustrator, he regularly contributed art to Ford Times , a “lifestyle” magazine published by the Ford Motor Company. Harper contributed artwork to 120 issues of Ford Times, illustrating articles on topics ranging from travel to fish to recipes. Starting in 1956, Harper wrote the text for the articles as well.
