According to the United States Department of Agriculture, “farm animals are regulated under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) only when used in biomedical research, testing, teaching and exhibition. As such, most people do not consider the potential abuse that may have taken place to bring their hamburger onto their dinner plate.

It is estimated that the amount of grain fed to cattle and hogs in the United States in 1971 was twice that of U.S. It only takes a little imagination to suppose that every bite of hamburger we eat is taking grain away from a hungry child in India.
