Best Bird of the Weekend (2nd of July 2016)

Mike’s Best Bird of the Weekend was the Caspian Tern (like the one above) that greeted him upon his arrival at Lake Michigan. The bittern was nice but it was even better to see Desi even if he didn’t want to leave to head home to hot New York City! How about you? What was your best bird of the weekend?

It was in the great borough of Queens in New York City that I first discovered both beer and birding, two great loves of my life that happily intersect with great regularity here at Birds and Booze. We were fans of the Dominican lager El Presidente (mostly on account of the cool name) and Guinness was always a favorite.

Best Bird of the Weekend (First of August 2012)

My Best Bird(s) of the Weekend were a trio of cranes, presumably Sandhills , crossing high above the interstate as I drove out of Michigan. David Ringer , who recently moved to New York City, spotted it and was immediately confused by the jubilation this common bird caused in the Queens birders with whom he was birding.

Third, Kirtland’s Warbler has only recently made the New York State checklist with two sightings in 2014. ( Even under gray skies and rain a Kirtland’s Warbler in New York City is an experience that no one who saw it will ever forget. One of which is documented here.
