Indeed, can you truly experience the wonder of nature from the confines of a vehicle? This Swainson’s Hawk was photographed above a gas station in Idaho. Barbed wire fences are terrible for wildlife, snaring large birds and mammals alike…but for smaller passerines, they sure make good perches.

There were birders from a wide cross-section of the United States: Colorado, Ohio, Idaho, Iowa, Wyoming, Washington State, Pennsylvania, New York State, New Jersey, California, Texas, Florida. Initially, I wasn’t that excited about seeing mammals. I’m sure there are states that I missed, but you get the idea.
