Let's deconstruct: What we have here is the myth that killing animals in the wild and then eating them is somehow a compassionate act. It's difficult for me to understand how the act of thanking a god, who likely doesn't even exist, would matter to the nonhuman animal who is killed for the crime of being a nuisance to a human animal.

But, we’re facing a world of shrinking biodiversity and depressingly-high bird kill numbers that demand an accounting outside of our self interest.

The paradigm case of euthanasia is where a sentient being is terminally ill, will die soon anyway, and is in great pain. Euthanasia is often called mercy killing, for obvious reasons: Its motive is mercy.
