It was a warm afternoon on the Florida Panhandle, and my husband and I were exploring the recreation areas of Eglin Air Force Base, which is the size of Rhode Island. As a result of development and loss of their habitat, their populations have vastly declined , and they have been listed as a federally Endangered Species.

What could motivate gunmen (I cannot call them hunters) in two states to deliberately kill North America’s tallest and most critically endangered bird? It may be as sick as deliberately targeting an endangered species for death. In the only state in the Central Flyway that protects cranes from hunting. It flies on.
