Tiphys died either of a snakebite or of a mysterious illness but he was not killed by either a tiger or a rhinoceros. Back to birds. The Oriental Darter is classified as Near Threatened – the reasons are the usual ones: habitat loss, hunting, and pollution. I guess he should have stuck with the substantially less dangerous trogons.
