Here's my response on medical research in general. I recently had a discussion about medical research using animals. Many people feel very uncomfortable with animal testing, even scientists I think, which is why they often get so emotional and defensive about their research. Perhaps it was a necessary “evil.”

I particularly question the use of chimpanzees in medical research. How smart does a chimpanzee have to be before killing him constitutes murder? If they are "only" animals, if they are beasts which abstract not, then my comparison is a piece of sentimental foolishness. Like other mammals, they are capable of strong emotions.
