And oh crap, you guys, we really have to do something about the California Condor situation right now, but what? And no one had seen the Eskimo Curlew around in a while.

Vesper Sparrow Pooecetes gramineus

But I, of course, live in the east and the lack of Vesper Sparrows is a downer because when any species is in decline it is depressing but also because they are pretty darn neat sparrows. The Vesper Sparrow is named for its tendency to sing in the evening, right before the end of the day.
