We "traditionally" have applied our social mores in some places and not others, and we should go back to "tradition," which I bet has something to do with continuing to care about our dogs while continuing to feign care for "farm animals," as they're value is as food only. It is not in dispute that, in modern factory farms, animals are raised in massively overcrowded, unnatural warehouses. It is not just a few outspoken animal rights fanatics who hold this view.

This includes refusing to support business firms that cause, or profit from, animal suffering.
