50 surviving horses were rescued. The Humane Society of the United States, SPCA of East Texas and Humane Society of North Texas worked with the Smith County District Attorney's Office to rescue 50 horses from a Lindale property. The SPCA, Lothnianís Animal Rescue and Rehoming Center have taken custody of the animal and are providing it with care. Since there are many laws and fines against animal cruelty or irresponsible pet ownership, its possible that the man felt this was his only recourse. An animal shelter or animal rescue center are good options.

Pit Bull Rescue Central (PBRC) is a great resource for pit bull owners and those that find a homeless or lost pit bull. Another option is to call your local Human Society or Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, also known as the SPCA.
