We have photographs and newspaper obituaries of Martha, the last living Passenger Pigeon, who died after a lifetime in captivity, mostly in the Cincinnati Zoo. It is correct, of course, to think of extinction this way during the Holocene Extinction, which we are living through right now. We have a lot of source material. What a horror!
