Fast forwarding to Costa Rica, to be honest, you won’t find any grouse around here. Further south, several of these cool, tropical wild chickens evolved to inhabit a variety of tropical forests, in Costa Rica, we have been honored with seven of them. Bushwacking? Not in this place. Fred would have been proud.

Costa Rica is a tropical country but it doesn’t have to be hot. To be honest, I shouldn’t downplay the lower temperatures of Costa Rica’s high elevations. A bird of treeline and paramo habitats in Costa Rica and Panama, this wren is a main target for visiting birders.

Resolutions for Birding in Costa Rica, 2019

I actually really hope to see this bird in 2019 in Costa Rica. Living in warm Costa Rica, I no longer need to worry about venturing into the “frio extremo” to see a Pine Grosbeak or some errant gull. For example, around here, we have to watch our step for vipers wonderfully camouflaged in the leaf litter.
