The kakariki are an odd group of parakeets, particularly in terms of their distribution. Compared to that of say the Collared Kingfisher , for example, it would hardly raise an eyebrow. Let’s back up a little bit and introduce the parakeets. My first complaint about Forshaw’s treatment of the kakariki is taxonomic.
