I got my first pets, mice and guinea pigs, when I was 8. Many mutts you can get from the pound or animal shelter make terrific pets. I strongly encourage people to adopt pound and shelter animals. With purebred animals, it is especially important to do your research and make sure the pet fits your family’s lifestyle.

In a brief tour of a particular biotech research company, I was taken to the animal lab. but did experiment on mice and guinea pigs. It reminded me of an adoption poster at the animal shelter. But when I got closer, I read, "Animal research opens minds." Then, heading out, I noticed three little knitted mice.
