Best Bird of the Weekend (First of March 2011)

We were at Big John’s pond and a red tailed hawk came out of nowhere and we thought he was going to fly right into the blind. My first bird in Washington DC, where I am visiting for the weekend. On Sunday at Kissena Park I saw five species of sparrows. Wicked, right? No time to take a picture. Thanks for visiting!

It may be as sick as deliberately targeting an endangered species for death. That’s what you do with other game, right? Birders know that the light’s not always perfect or even particularly good when you’re trying to tell one species from another. Speculation is useless in acts of vandalism. The big white one. It flies on.
