Sibley Birds East & Sibley Birds West: A Review

Sibley Birds East covers “nearly 700” birds, up from 650, and Sibley Birds West covers “over 700,” which I’m assuming is more than the first edition count of 703 birds, if for no other reason than that taxonomic splits have give us Ridgeway’s Rail, Bell’s Sparrow and Sagebrush Sparrow. This means that loons are no longer first!

Sometimes, I’ll reply with a story about the sparrows found in a local grasslands preserve. Families do not hike up mountains to sit all day on pointy rocks to watch woodpeckers. I’m not going to try to explain why people are fascinated by hawks; human-to-avian psychology is not my specialty. Those cameras are aimed at hawks.
