Spectacular Birding on Cerro Montezuma

What happens when you visit one of the best birdwatching sites in the region with the highest number of endemic bird species in the Americas in the world’s birdiest country? How else can I describe two days at Cerro Montezuma in Colombia. We spied 11 tanager species including the highly coveted Black-and-gold Tanager.

It is also true that condors will spot cows and other livestock giving birth and guard the animal to be there and take advantage of the placenta and other leftovers. The species is being re-introduced in Colombia and Ecuador where the condors are either locally extinct or persist in very low numbers.
