Yet, in 1990s India has killed more than 99% of its Gyps vultures (e.g. in 1980s there were up to 80 million White-rumped Vultures in India – today the population numbers only several thousand). Cows are considered sacred by majority of Hindus so cow meat is generally not consumed. No one knew why they were dying.
