Lowland rainforest ecosystems in Amazonia typically host well over 500 species and the richest rainforests in Costa Rica have lists with 300 to 400. Yep, that’s a heck of a lot of birds and in Costa Rica, that many in a small area are only going to be found in places with sizeable tracts of primary rainforest.

During October, 7 countries (Costa Rica, Australia, USA, India, Hong Kong, UK, Serbia) were birded by 11 beats who shared 135 checklists and noted 697 species. 9 beats shared 100 checklists from 8 countries (Costa Rica, USA, UK, Brazil, Serbia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Australia. In an unusual turnaround during September, more birds were seen in USA than in Costa Rica. Cattle Tyrant – Machetornis rixosa. Cattle Egret – Bubulcus ibis.
