The lagoon outside offered other experiences too. South of the city you’ll find rich birding around the Bay and further afield you’ll reach the soaring California Condors of Big Sur and Pinnacles. So still that a Red-shouldered Hawk once used me as cover while sneaking up on some pigeons. I was transfixed.
