Wagner wasn’t the only one to have died from gunshot wounds. There are not, as far as I know, any plans to re-name the Montagu’s Harrier, a bird that’s now a real rarity in the UK that only occasionally breeds here. Eleonora’s Falcons still breed on Sardinia today. However, most of us still call it a Bewick’s.

The white redtail couldn’t fly because she’d spent somewhere between 14 and 24 hours on the ground in freezing rain, encased in mud, and was suffering from capture myopathy, a sometimes-fatal condition induced by stress. Erica Miller, formerly of Tri-State Bird Rescue in Delaware. Will she be releasable? It’s too soon to tell.
