I know he's a conservationist, therefore I know he will advocate for "managing" the "resources" that are sentient nonhumans. And managing means killing them, breeding them, and otherwise fiddling with their populations. That depends largely on us, our priorities, and our allocation of resources.

I was especially interested in “To Hide From God,” the chapter on songbird slaughter and protection in Cyprus. The 20-plus list of resources is organized by chapter, so there may be some repeats in the citations I counted, but I doubt there are many.)

Another 170 are in captivity, many of them breeding stock for reintroduction efforts. It may be as sick as deliberately targeting an endangered species for death. Birders know that the light’s not always perfect or even particularly good when you’re trying to tell one species from another. The big white one. It flies on.
