Though these plovers are common on the North Norfolk coast, their nearest breeding grounds are far to the north. A few do breed in Europe, on the extreme north-east of European Russia. For some reason, the largest member of the heron family is not called the Great Heron nor the Giant Heron but rather the Goliath Heron.
