That’s right, there is another Beat Writer at 10,000 Birds! He attended Iowa State University where he earned his B.S. One of his most memorable birding experiences was the six months spent in Northeast Brazil performing research on a new species of bird called the Araripe Manakin. Over time the hobby grew into a career.

There were birders from a wide cross-section of the United States: Colorado, Ohio, Idaho, Iowa, Wyoming, Washington State, Pennsylvania, New York State, New Jersey, California, Texas, Florida. And so, I went on the American Birding Association Safari to South Africa. I’m sure there are states that I missed, but you get the idea.

That’s right, the overwhelming benefits to the environment and the economy are generated by non-consumptive uses of the refuges like wildlife photography, environmental education, wildlife observation and interpretation, not hunting and fishing.
