On the breeding grounds of the north, a small bird flies into the night, takes a bearing for the south, gains altitude and flies onward. Smaller frogs and toads, mice, bugs, worms, dog food, and carrion, you name it. The rails did indeed come to investigate but came up empty-beaked. The equation seems incredible.
