Proposal 2013-A-6 would split the shearwater taxon baroli , which breeds on several Atlantic island groups (the Azores, Canaries, Selvages, and Madeira) and strays to North American waters, from its current position as part of the Little Shearwater ( Puffinus assimilis ) complex. Second of all, Lewis’s Woodpeckers are birds of the west and they rarely stray to New York State. Here’s hoping this bird makes it back to its home turf to breed and comes back to spend another winter in New York State! Melanerpes lewis is, to put it simply, a really cool bird.
