Birding Singapore

I was just thinking that tailorbird might be a good brand name for a cheap line of men’s clothing. Lesser Whistling Ducks are “not threatened by hunting as they are not considered good to eat” ( Wikipedia ). In Singapore, Common Redshanks mostly drink Tiger Beer. Lucky ducks.

SE Arizona 10 day birding blitz!

As it sits right now, I will lose most of the month of September to house projects, and two different weddings out of the state of Arizona, but who knows, maybe I can find some cools birds in other states for a change! We saw a total of 7 Mississippi Kites, and these three birds were hunting on the Pima County side of the line.

A mozzie bites me, so I take the “Expedition Plus Insect Repellent” from my rucksack (when I think about it now, any local brand would probably be equally efficient, but they lack the word “expedition” which immediately turns you into a proper explorer) and start spraying my hands and neck. He has earned his tip.

Then again, why would anyone name a bird after a botanist, let alone one I only just made up right now? In the right light, the male Common Pheasant can look ridiculously attractive. I should also point out that contrary to popular belief, the Common Starling is not named after Edward Common (1858-1892), the English botanist.
