Nick Rahall and Raul Grijalva have introduced a bill that would protect healthy wild horses from being killed by the BLM. The crusade she started--which included a massive letter-writing campaign and eventually a beloved children's book--culminated in 1971 with enactment of the Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act.

Herzog states, “The awkward fact is that most wanton animal cruelty is not perpetrated by inherently bad kids but by normal children who will eventually grow up to be good citizens” (34). . Much of the book deals with topics vegans have likely pondered, likely frequently. The campaign to moralize meat has largely been a failure.

Wildlife conservation is concerned with protecting wildlife at the level of species or perhaps population. One of the first examples I ever encountered was in the books of Gerald Durrell, the famous conservationist who was an early pioneer of the roles of zoos in conservation.
