It was a warm winter day and the bird seemed to be practicing its song for the breeding season to come. Jewett in Birds of Oregon Descriptions in bird books always refer to the notes as “flutelike,” “clear,” and “ethereal,” but I prefer bird expert Kenn Kaufmann’s word, “pensive.”

This is an endemic breeding bird in North America and much is now being done by various federal and non-profit groups to ensure and foster its conservation. Piping plovers are always a treat to see, whether at their coastal or inland breeding grounds or whether at their southern wintering grounds. Thanks for visiting!

The male Bar-tailed Godwit are the first to show us breeding plumage and then the Red Knot and Curlew Sandpipers have two beautiful reds-red wine rather than cranberry juice! Breeding colour becomes rather obvious! She also monitors Pied Oystercatchers breeding along a 23km stretch of beach by bicycle and on foot.
