Habitat destruction combined with hunting has pushed them away from their former breeding grounds. Last but not least, the Special Nature Reserve is being managed by the local hunting club – the reserve occupies their hunting ground. Bustards are very susceptible to any kind of disturbance and, naturally, hunters like to shoot.

If you think it is rather pretentious to start a birding blog post with a Kafka story, I fully agree with you. This is partly due to hunting in China, where about 90% of the species winter (HBW). But then, I am not a hunter, and do not understand them either). I just want to point out it could be much worse.
