All the inhabited continents except Africa have experienced bird extinctions; however the 2012 update of the IUCN Red List shows a startling, but not altogether unexpected, trend in that more and more of our bird species are facing extinction. We are facing a plague of poaching that is again decimating the species. In Africa, one elephant is being killed every 15 minutes. But the “illegal international trade” is already there, killing – among other places – in Kruger (S. How much time did you need to read this blog? One may say so. Perhaps 15 minutes?

What could motivate gunmen (I cannot call them hunters) in two states to deliberately kill North America’s tallest and most critically endangered bird? It may be as sick as deliberately targeting an endangered species for death. Speculation is useless in acts of vandalism. Thank you for your efforts.
