Birding Hongbenghe, Yunnan (Part 1)

10,000 Birds

Given that according to the HBW, the species prefers dense primary and secondary montane forests, the note that the bird also forages among kitchen waste (in the same HBW entry) seems somewhat incongruous. ” ( source ). George Rippon (1861-1927), a member of the British Army in India and Burma.

Birding Shanghai in March 2023

10,000 Birds

Chinese Penduline T**s are not particularly woke birds. White’s Thrush is described as “burly” on eBird – not entirely unjustified, I guess, but this description fails to capture the way the intricate patterns of the bird make for great camouflage and also for its own kind of beauty. 10,000 Birds

Raptors of Nanhui, Shanghai

10,000 Birds

And in my customary environmentally friendly approach to recycling bird photos, I have collected some of them in this post. Apparently, soloensis stands for “Discovered in or native to the Solo River valley” (Wikipedia; the Solo river is a river in Indonesia). It is not a bird I am ever likely to find boring, though.

Birding Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

10,000 Birds

Frankly, Ho Chi Minh City is not a place you would go to specifically for birding. But if you are there anyway (at the start of a longer birding trip) and have an afternoon to spare, then why not? This indicates that the bird is aware of where the predator is looking.
