The water this Northern Pintail is in has human poo in it, which completely ruins the experience of seeing this bird. The majority of diehard birders do not care where they get their birds. There is a caste of birders, however, that do not subscribe to this way of birding…no. Oh wait, it doesn’t.

There are many wonderful things to see at the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival , but the Florida Scrub-Jay is as close to a “must see bird” as you’re likely to find down here. Not to mention the many birds sitting on the heads of those birders surrounding me.

In simplest terms it is where the landfast ice meets the open ocean, and it is a magnet for wildlife, especially in the 24 hour light of the Arctic spring. Wildlife concentrates at the Floe Edge, and although we just missed Narwhal as pack ice moved in just after we arrived, the place was littered with Polar Bear. Ringed Seal.
