The bird was such a hit with residents that Kasia, who went on to found the rescue organization Kasia’s Ark Bird Rescue , continued the effort once she returned to New Orleans. Scooter is now getting on in years and has suffered health setbacks. She also brings the birds to schools and other community groups.

Suzie Gilbert first came to our attention here at 10,000 Birds when she published Flyaway: How A Wild Bird Rehabber Sought Adventure and Found Her Wings in 2009. Luckily, she has birder friends who will rush to her aid, although she must then suffer their mockery. Why go birding when you can just stroll through the house?
