As we headed down the trail, we were stopped from taking the long route by yellow tape and a sign warning of bears. In the fall, the Grizzlies take to the streams to lay waste to the post-spawning salmon, which look like nothing so much as fish zombies, half-decayed and ragged as they swim without purpose in the region’s many rivers.

We have a Green Heron here in the marina, that has become quite adept at fishing with bait. It will grab small bits of bread or crackers that are thrown from the near by restaurant patrons, who feed the fish. It then uses then to lure in the fish close enough to grab.
