Top 25 NWRs for birding and percent of acres purchased with MBCF funds: Anahuac NWR (Texas): 80.0%. Aransas NWR (Texas): 42.7%.

For example, my list of the Top 25 National Wildlife Refuges for birding includes locations in Utah ( Bear River MBR ), Minnesota ( Minnesota Valley NWR ), and Wisconsin ( Horicon NWR ). Naturally, the “missing” states implicitly suggest birding trips, as every “empty” state provides excellent birding opportunities.
