Signs of Spring Migration in Costa Rica

Based on birding this very morning from the back of my place in Costa Rica, I can guarantee that at least some Baltimore Orioles, Tennessee Warblers , a Painted Bunting and a few other migrants are still far to the south. Wilson’s Plovers are in Breeding Plumage. At some sites, flocks of 30, even 60 or more birds are expected.

Reminders and Perils of Fall Migration in Costa Rica

Even if we couldn’t find time to raise the bins at a favorite patch, it only takes momentary glances into the sky and hearing chip notes from the trees to remind us that birds are on the move. In the meantime, I hope to bear witness to the continued spectacle of fall migration right at the homestead and further afield.
