Birding Cuba, or Observación de aves en Cuba

Cuban Emeralds, a near-endemic found in Cuba and the Bahamas, perched at a distance from the Bee Hummingbirds. They nest in palms, and we found a small area where we observed several couples investigating and preparing nest holes. The female Bee Hummingbird watched. A little plainer, but in the sun her iridescent blue feathers gleamed.

And, while friends have told that me that I can go to the Bahamas and easily see the warbler in January, it turns out that is not true, the bird is elusive in its winter habitat as well (which is not Jack Pine, by the way). So if you want to see a Kirtland’s Warbler, you go to Michigan in May or June.
