Brown Thrashers , large, rust-colored songbirds, were so popular in Georgia that they became the namesake of their NHL hockey team, the “Atlanta Thrashers!” The team has since been moved to Canada, but the state bird remains a celebrated symbol.

The USVI are smaller and have fewer habitats and, as a result, fewer bird species. The ABA Area should Reflect the Avian Diversity of the United States and Canada. The ABA purports to be the national association of birders for the United States and Canada. Many native birds are either endemics or widespread Caribbean species.
