Godlewski’s Bunting is an attractive bunting species with a rather broad distribution in Russia, Mongolia, China, and other countries. Not sure how I (or the bird itself) feel about the bird being named after a bird collector, though.

Black-tailed Godwits around Broome

The Black-tailed Godwits that we observe here in Australia breed in east Siberia and Mongolia. The migratory shorebirds are now returning to the Broome area and the numbers of birds on the beaches of Roebuck Bay are rapidly increasing. In Australia we encounter the subspecies Limosa limosa melanuroides.

Biting the bullet or jumping the shark? A potential Baikal Wagtail in Germany

Or a bit of a PR disaster for my birding skillz if I am not correct. Baicalensis inhabits southern Siberia around lake Baikal and ranges into the northern half of Mongolia. Any other region, even central Asia, scarcely provides us with vagrants here in Europe. So it may turn out to be a bit of a big deal.
