Bea sent me a link to an article in Gourmet called " Humane Slaughterhouses ," by Rebecca Marx, that is absurd. They believe you can take a life that doesn't want to be taken in a humane way, and I don't agree. The animal is an "it," but I wouldn't expect anything more in this type of article. Potent if symbolic?

Kristof writes: "The juxtaposition of the two reviews made me wonder: Some day, will our descendants be mystified by how good and decent people in the early 21st century—that''s us—could have been so oblivious to the unethical treatment of animals?" I would replace "animals" with "fetuses." Eating meat cannot be so justified.

Jonathan Hubbell, a philosophy major at the University of Texas at Arlington, is the newest member of the Animal Ethics blog, and once again, I would like to welcome him aboard. It truly is horrific and despicable to treat animals so badly. All that follows from that assumption is that it is morally permissible to eat some meat.
