If you’re on Aimee’s blog, odds are you’re either already an animal lover or en route to becoming one, so it probably should not come as any surprise that I, myself, am also slightly obsessed with our four legged friends. One of my favorite experiences was the chance to work with Shelby, a dog that was absolutely terrified of men.

NEW JERSEY – Animal shelters are full, they have no space, they often have no money, and they have a small amount of dedicated volunteers. Many of these boarding animals are forgotten. There is an estimated 3-4million pets euthanized each year in US animal shelters. Will they get sick in the shelter?

At an NYC puppy shelter a few weeks ago, my mind was just about made up when I met Chester – The cutest Lab puppy I’d ever seen. His large pouty eyes, silky fur-coat, and silly little paws on which he fumbled all over the hay-covered kennel, lured me in like a dog to a bone. The following is a guest post from Kevin Sloan.

Rarely do shelters know anything about the dog’s history when they first come in and the longer a dog lives at the shelter the more impact it will have on their emotional well-being.

In case you are not home when disaster strikes, pre-place stickers on your doors to notify emergency workers or neighbors where on your property your animals are located and where to find your emergency pet kit. Most often pets are not allowed in these shelters due to reasons of human health safety.
