Nearly 30,000 of these acres is set aside as dry wilderness habitat for other birds, animals and other various living creatures. Much like my visit to Malheur NWR, the actual wet Land areas are flooded once the cooperative farming is over. There are a few places left to check out locally before we leave, once we are settled in Tucson.
