While I harbor mixed feelings about zoos in general, this facility seems to make the best effort possible to keep animals in interesting enclosures, move them to different areas of the zoo to maintain novel surroundings, and invest money and space into a 30 acre mixed species enclosure, where the animals can move freely.

Another animal dies at the Calgary Zoo and more questions are being raised about their practices. The fatality is one in a string of animal deaths in recent years. In April 2009, unseasonably cold weather froze two whopping crane eggs. Tags: zoos welfare violations animal welfare.

In Nicaragua, the army patrols beaches to protect sea turtle eggs. But now there is increasing talk of more far-reaching action.

In other words, you can’t say something like, “humans, gorillas, chimps, and bonobos are all in the same family and equally related to each other.” For example, “the Ungulata include hooved animals with multi-chambered stomachs, except the whales.”. So, here’s the thing. Some sort of ancient fish-with-feet is the ancestors of humans.

The definition of the word HUNT is “to chase or search for game or other wild animals for the purpose of catching or killing.” The Amur Leopard ( Panthera pardus orientalis – above) is just one majestic animal on the Critically Endangered (CR) list with less than 100 individuals in the wild due to hunting for its fur.
