I decided to look online for some information regarding the "Organic Free Range Eggs" that Trader Joe's, my favorite store, sells. A Note About Eggs At Trader Joe's we listen to what our customers tell us about the choices we give them. As of this time, all Trader Joe's brand eggs come only from cage-free hens.

To the Editor: Re “ Egg Producers and Humane Society Urging Federal Standard on Hen Cages ” (Business Day, July 8): I’m a vegetarian who turned vegan after coming to terms with the fact that just because I was eating hormone-free, antibiotic-free, even free-range organic eggs didn’t mean that egg-producing hens were living a cruelty-free life.

Animals raised for food suffer miserably. The overwhelming passage in November of Proposition 2 in California, which banned tight confinement of many of the animals raised for food, is a fine example of the power of publicity to educate people about the atrocities we commit to those animals who have no voice of their own.
