In responding to Suzie’s post defending wildlife rehabilitation I began to think again about the areas in which animal rights and animal welfare overlap with the field of conservation, and the ways in which they don’t. Not from an environmental perspective but from a “don’t you like animals?”

The most notorious effect is that their eggshells become so thin that a parent bird will crush it’s eggs while attempting to incubate them. Rabbits were introduced to the island by guano miners, which turned the previously verdant island into a giant sand dune; almost all vegetation was wiped out. And get angry and take action.
