What do you do when you – a citizen whose rights are protected by the U.S. This is what we need for birds, whose rights as government-protected species are violated every day by free-roaming cats. Enough hand-wringing, enough taking butchered birds to exhausted, emotionally drained wildlife rehabilitators.

Angus sent me a link to " Animal Parts: High Style of Just Plain Beastly " wherein Zosia Bielski reports that "hipsters are going whole hog, donning road kill as accessories and cow hooves on their feet.". The underlying philosophy is that the dead animals "should be used in their entirety." It's giving the animal purpose after life.

The first was Lewis Binford, who noted, correctly, that if you look at actual animal bones from actual archaeological sites, you could not objectively see clear evidence that would distinguish hunting from scavenging, and if you compared these “food remains” to hyena food remains, they looked roughly the same. You’d starve.

I immensely enjoyed "EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED" (even on the big screen) and eagerly anticipated "EATING ANIMALS" by Jonathan Safran Foer. Finally, if you know someone who gravitates toward the philosophical issues around our use of animals, this is a good book. Ever, in fact. Not great, but good. Imagine being served a plate of sushi.
