The Ministry of the Environment is in the process of amending the Japanese animal protection law. The Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) has proposed that the Ministry exempt JAZA's members from the current requirement to register as animal handlers with local authorities.

I think I'll join today, as I'm not sure I can make a fair judgment on the process and the structure (and the success, whatever that means) from the outside. Here are my initial thoughts, though: "Animal Protection." Other people influence the choice of nonprofit, which is both good and bad.

Now, in 21st century America, we’re entertaining new considerations, in keeping with our modern understanding of wild animals and conservation. A new willingness among scientists to consider certain moral and ethical implications with respect to wild animals, where previously utilitarian ideas prevailed, including ideas of intrinsic value.
